A dairy cattle farm near Amman — engineered and constructed by CEC for Al-Youm Dairy Company, combining free-stall housing, a dedicated milking parlor, feed storage, and effluent management infrastructure into a single working agricultural facility.
Jordan's dairy sector depends on a chain of specialized agricultural infrastructure that begins at the farm — purpose-built facilities where dairy cattle are housed, fed, and milked under conditions designed to maximize animal welfare and milk yield. Al-Youm Dairy Company commissioned CEC to construct a dedicated cow farm near Amman as the production base for its dairy operations, supplying raw milk for processing at the company's nearby facility.
The farm was designed around the free-stall housing model widely used in modern commercial dairy operations: open-sided barns providing shade and ventilation while allowing cattle to move freely between resting, feeding, and milking areas. CEC's construction scope covered these free-stall barns alongside a dedicated milking parlor building — the operational heart of the farm, where cattle are moved through a structured milking routine multiple times daily — as well as feed storage structures sized to hold the bulk feed required to sustain the herd, and infrastructure to manage the substantial volumes of effluent and manure generated by a working dairy operation.
Agricultural construction of this kind differs substantially from conventional commercial or residential building work. The structures must prioritize ventilation, drainage, and durability under constant exposure to animals, feed, and washdown water, while the site layout must support efficient daily routines — moving cattle, feed, and milk between buildings with minimal friction. CEC drew on its broad civil and structural construction experience to deliver a farm that functions as an integrated production system, not simply a collection of buildings.
Constructing a working dairy cattle facility involves a distinct set of design and construction considerations not found in standard commercial buildings:
CEC's construction scope on the Al-Youm Cow Farm covered sitework and earthworks to establish the farm's layout and drainage falls; construction of free-stall barn structures with steel or concrete frames and durable roofing for shade and weather protection; the milking parlor building with hygienic finishes, drainage, and services connections for milking equipment; feed storage structures; and effluent management infrastructure including collection channels and storage facilities sized to the herd. External works included internal farm roads and yards designed for both vehicle and cattle movement.
CEC applied its standard First Grade construction quality controls to the Al-Youm Cow Farm, with particular attention to the durability of finishes in areas subject to constant moisture and animal contact, the correct fall and capacity of drainage and effluent systems, and the structural integrity of barn roofing systems under Jordan's wind and snow-load conditions. The facility was handed over ready for Al-Youm Dairy Company to commence livestock operations, forming the first link in the company's farm-to-processing dairy chain.
